Aids and Equipment for deaf pupils
Teachers of the deaf provide a range of aids and equipment to support deaf children and young people to overcome barriers to learning. These include:
Hearing aid accessories – replacement batteries and tubes, to ensure the hearing aid remains in full working order.
Radio aids – a transmitter, worn by a teacher, and a receiver, worn by your child, which works by making the sound the child needs to hear, such as the teacher’s voice, clearer in relation to unwanted background noises.
Soundfield systems – a sound system for schools that improves the learning environment for the entire class by improving the sound environment in the classroom. Designed specifically for speech sounds, these systems greatly enhance speech understanding. Soundfield ensures an even distribution of sound from the teacher, the students and any multimedia equipment.
With a soundfield system, the students sitting in the back of the classroom hear the teacher and other students equally as well as the students sitting in front. This helps all students hear what is being said and improves their attentiveness, participation, comprehension and concentration.
