Co-production of the Essex Local Offer
The Children and Families Bill received royal assent on 13th March 2014, confirming the obligation for local authorities to publish a local offer by September 2014. There was a requirement for Local Authorities to co-produce the Local Offer with Young People and Parents.
The purpose of the local offer is to improve choice for families by providing information about services available for children and young people aged 0-25 who have special educational needs and/or disabilities.
From April 2013 – August 2013 Essex took the briefing from Government and started to share it with parents, schools and young people all over Essex.
In May 2013 the SEN Project Team held Local Offer events in 4 locations inviting parents, schools, young people and professionals around Essex to share their views.
In June 2013 SEN Project Team held SEND Consultation briefings engaging parents, schools, young people and professionals around Essex.
July 2013 SEN Project Team reviewed all the comments and requests from the community from both events and published frequently asked questions on the Essex County Council site.
Essex made the decision that a Essex Local Offer Portal would be the best way to enable our Essex customers to find information about what was available in Essex. We wanted our customers to have a one stop shop of all services within the county of Essex.
The portal went live on the 1st September 2014 and we would like to thank everyone who has helped to produce the site, content and who will be involved in the future.
The SEN Project Team held Local Offer launch events in 4 locations in September and October 2014, inviting those who had attended the previous events as well as other professionals. This allowed the team to been given feedback about the portal, which will go into the further development of the site. Below you will be able to see the presentation as well as the summary of questions and answers that were provided.
More information about how the Essex Local Offer has changed and coproduced since the launch of the Essex Local Offer in September 2014, can be found on the Coproduction and Consultation page and the You Said, We Did page.
