Your child’s teacher will be available to offer you support and information. If you need to find out who they are, please contact the team lead: and he will be able to direct you to the right person.

General support and information

The two main charities who support children and young people with a hearing impairment and their families in the UK are:

Using radio aids 

The Hearing Impairment service at Essex County Council provide Phonak Roger radio aids – including the Roger touchscreen, Roger pen or Roger Inspiro transmitter, and the receivers that work with them.

There are videos on YouTube which explain how to use these – search for your Phonak Roger device to find these guides. You can also ask your Teacher of the Deaf about how to use and look after your aids.

Listening activities

British Sign Language (BSL) activities

Signature offers 90 days free access to their BSL homework site. This has videos and supporting materials for people learning BSL at different levels:

The KAOS Signing Choir has videos and signed songs to join in with.

Apps for deaf children and families

The NDCS has lists of useful Apps for Android and IOS devices. These are organised into different sections to help you find what you are looking for.
