Ability using Sport

Ability using Sport is a local, non-profit, disability sports club operating in Colchester. It was founded by its coach and chief director, Kevin Smith. Kevin has almost 20 years of experience in disability sports coaching.

It is the club’s aim to provide sports education through coaching to children and young adults with:

  • Special Educational Needs
  • Autism
  • ADHD
  • Learning difficulties
  • Mental health issues
  • Some variables of physical disabilities.

At present, the club runs a weekly Multi-sports session. This will be moving into Stanway School, Stanway, Colchester on July 6th. Sessions will take place on three out of four Tuesdays of the month between 6pm and 7pm.

From 6th August, Ability using Sport will start its own Football Academy in association with Stanway Rovers Football Club on Friday evenings.

There is also a Saturday session once a month for children in the area of Maldon.

The club believes in social education and teaching those with special educational needs, new skills.
It is the club’s ethos to be fully inclusive and to be patient, compassionate and understanding. The members in the club enjoy making new friends and love the varying sports and activities that are provided.

Regular participation leads to an increase in confidence and a sense of fulfilment. The young people who join soon find that they belong to a club that they look forward to attending, each and every week.

Prospective new players only need to email or call to register their interest for their name to be added to session plans.
