
CARA (Centre for Action on Rape and Abuse)
CARA (Centre for Action on Rape and Abuse) is for victims and survivors of sexual violence and child sexual abuse. They work with adults, young people aged 13 to 19, and children aged 12 and under from across mid and north Essex.
Counselling for adults
CARA provide one-to-one counselling for adults of all genders who are victims and survivors of any type of sexual violence, either recently or in the past. The sessions are weekly and usually last 6 to 20 weeks.
Women’s social group
This group is for female adult victims and survivors of sexual violence. They meet weekly in Colchester for self-care creative activities, tea and biscuits. If you are interested, call 01206 769795.
Counselling for young people
CARA’s young people counsellors are trained to deal with the impact of rape and childhood sexual abuse on young people. They also provide support around child sexual exploitation, ritual abuse, flashbacks, self-harm, eating disorders and drugs and alcohol misuse.
Therapy play sessions for children and families
Child-led play therapy is offered on a weekly basis and usually lasts 20 weeks. Sessions give children the opportunity to process what has happened to them and make sense of the complicated and confusing emotions they may be experiencing.
CARA also offer one-to-one sessions for parents and carers of children who have beens sexually abused, to help them to support their children though the difficult emotions they are facing.
Hours of operation
9am to 6pm. Evening and weekend appointments are also available.
