Community Paediatric Physiotherapy and Occupational Therapy service – West Essex

The Children’s Physiotherapy and Occupational Therapy Service offers advice and support for children and young people who have a physical disability or a condition that impacts on their development and their functional daily activities.

The service is available to children and young people aged 0-18 (up to 19 years if in a West Essex Special School) with a West Essex GP.

We work together as part of an integrated team with each other and with parents, carers and the team around the child, for example Health Visitors, Family Support Practitioners, doctors, teachers, and social workers.

We see children in a variety of environments including community clinics, homes, school, nurseries, Family Hubs and Healthy Family Delivery Sites to achieve a child’s best potential.

We will assess and make recommendations for specialist equipment and postural management equipment for home and school use. This includes equipment needed for children to support hospital discharge, palliative care and for the management of short-term conditions such as after surgery.

We will also see children and young people requiring Musculoskeletal Physiotherapy support. Our Physiotherapy service does not offer a respiratory service.
