Enhanced Provisions for Autism

Essex has worked with primary and secondary mainstream schools to develop specialist autism support centres.

Many pupils with autism already attend and succeed in their local mainstream schools. But, there are others with more complex needs who need more specialist support.

The centres help young people who are of mainstream ability but may have high levels of anxiety as a result of their autism, to access mainstream schooling.

Essex County Council’s SEND Operations Service manages admissions, with the schools. Pupils must have an Education, Health and Care plan.

There is a primary and a secondary school with this provision in each of the four Essex quadrants (Mid, South, West and North East).
