Open Door Services

Open Door Services is a local charity for vulnerable children, young people and adults in Thurrock. They work with other organisations, including Thurrock Council and Essex County Council

Open Door offer help and support so that people can become more independent, take control over their situations and make decisions for themselves.

Mentoring and Coaching

  • for 8 to 18 year olds
  • one to one, weekly mentoring and coaching for young who are referred to the service.
  • mentoring and coaching supports young people to identify their goals and put together a plan to achieve them

Social Inclusion Project

  • for care leavers (18 year olds and above)
  • the Social Inclusion Project offers:
    • workshops to build independent living skills;
    • social activities to build self esteem and develop positive relationships;
    • volunteering opportunities;
    • mentoring for care leavers who need  support to access group activities

Mentoring and Advocacy for Children and Young People who Regularly go Missing

  • for young people who have been missing on more than three occasions, within the past three months
  • mentoring, advocacy and support

Advocacy and Support for Thurrock Looked After Children (YPLA)

  • for people under the age of 25 who are in the care, or have recently left the care of Thurrock local authority
  • advocacy, mentoring, workshops and activities service


  • for 8 to 18 year olds
  • one to one counselling to help children and young people address issues that may be causing them anxiety and stress.  Counselling helps build their confidence, self esteem and resilience
  • a safe space is provided so that a child or young person can talk openly, explore their feelings and identify coping strategies

Housing Advice and Support Service (HASS)

  • for people who are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless
  • support, information and advice drop in sessions and appointments

Coaching Into Independence

  • for young people in care turning 18 within a six month period, and planning to move into supported housing
  • coaching to support young people into their new accommodation (up to 16 hours)
  • support is offered around managing a tenancy, budget and to look at goals and aspirations for a smooth transition
