Pathways to Employment – Supported Internships

Supported internships are for young people aged 16 to 24 with an Education, Health and Care plan. They give young people the opportunity to demonstrate their value in the workplace whilst developing confidence in their work skills and qualities.

They involve working for an employer to gain the skills needed for work alongside studying for Maths, English and other relevant qualifications.

Supported internships usually last for a year, which includes unpaid work placements of at least six months.  They aim to support the young person to eventually move into paid employment.

Young people can apply for to the Access to Work fund to get financial help for travel costs, job coach support or specialist equipment.

Colleges in Essex offer supported internships. See:
