The Hearing Impairment team recommend the websites and resources below for parents of young people with hearing loss.

CHIPS – Children with Hearing Impairment Play and Stay A play-based communication session led by Teachers of the Deaf and Sensory Support Specialists at Essex County Council
British Sign UK Online courses for learning British Sign Language
Adult Community Learning The ACL have courses for learning British Sign Language. Search to find a course.
Signature  An awarding body for British Sign Language who offer local courses.  They also offer BSL Homework if you need extra practice.
Signed Stories Animated children’s stories in sign language.
Association of Lipspeakers  A Lipspeaker is a hearing person trained to repeat a speakers message accurately, using clear communication techniques, either with or without voice.  If requested, some lipspeakers can also offer sign support. Search the website to find a lipspeaker in your local area if you need support for doctor appointments, for example.
