Small Great Things – Multi-Schools Council Anti Bullying Event
May 7, 2019
What an incredible day we had at The Multi-Schools Council (MSC) Anti-Bullying Event in March!
Schools from all around the county came together, taking inspiration from some amazing talks and speeches by our young people, as well having the opportunity to take part in two of their chosen workshops.
One of these workshops was all about doing Small Great Things (SGT).
The idea behind Small Great Things is to empower children and young people to help others in their school and community, simply by doing something which may seem small, but can make a BIG difference to someone else.
The children began the workshop by helping to tell the story ‘I walk with Vanessa’ which explores the feelings of helplessness and anger of seeing a classmate treated badly and shows how a single act of kindness can lead to an entire community joining in to help.
Children were encouraged to think about what ‘Small Great Things’ could help them as well as what they could do in their own schools to promote these. Some wonderful ideas were added to the wall displays which have been shared in the picture below.
Finally, the children were invited to design their own ‘SGT Rocks’. The finished rocks were fantastic – lots of thought went into colours, pictures and quotes as you will see below. The children were able to take their SGT Rocks back to their schools to show their classmates and to encourage discussions about how they will bring Small Great Things alive within their own setting.
You can find more about Small Great Things on the Essex Local Offer which will hopefully tell you everything you need to know. However, if you would like any further information including tips for how to initiate SGT in your setting, then please contact email@example.com
